Snow Day at the Creek!

388 North Creek Road
Old Man Winter came to visit the Creek a few weeks ago, bringing a pristine blanket of snow and leaving behind a beautiful winter canvas for us to enjoy. Though the skies were gray, plenty of interesting sights were waiting to be found at our Landenberg farm. Our trial and demonstration gardens take on an entirely new appearance during the cold months, providing winter interest in our gardens plus food and cover for our wildlife friends.
Here are some of our favorite winter interest plants, with photos taken on strolls around the farm just before and after the blanket of snow arrived!
Amsonia hubrichtii puts on a fabulous fall display of bright yellow foliage, but keeps things interesting going into winter too, with its wispy light brown arching stems.
Dryoptheris erythrosora 'Brilliance' holds its green fronds in the winter, before its well-known display of coppery-red new growth unfurls in spring.
Euphorbia amygdaloides var. robbiae's foliage stays a fantastic shiny deep green, standing out well amongst the blanket of white.
Panicum is a crowd pleaser for our bird buddies, providing plenty of seed to snack on in the snowy weather.
The attractive bracts of Pycnanthemum muticum are a pollinator wonderland in the summer months - the black winter bracts remain intact to polka dot the landscape and provide the perfect resting spot for snowflakes, too.

Schizachyrium scoparium 'Standing Ovation' is everyone's favorite four-season little bluestem. Its no flop, no fuss garden stature stands tall through rain, sleet and snow!
