The Value of Mulch

To mulch or not to mulch? When installing a new planting, small to large, professionals highly suggest a covering of 2-4in of shredded bark or leaf mulch. Mulch is beneficial for preventing weed seed germination, protecting moisture around the root systems of newly planted material, adding a slow release of organic matter into the soil, and giving your new Landscape Plugs ™ a fighting chance against competitive opportunists. We recommend sourcing a weed-free mulch, preferably decomposed wood chips or shredded leaf mold. The easiest way to install our Landscape Plugs is to first apply the mulch and then plant the plugs, taking care not to backfill the hole with mulch to ensure good soil to root contact.
